Write a two-page, double spaced close analysis of a critical scene of your choosing from one of the following films: Dune (Denis Villeneuve, 2021), Candyman (Nia DaCosta, 2021), or Everything Everywhere All At Once (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, 2022). Your analysis should focus on how the scene articulates the representations of race and/or gender through cinematic techniques (e.g., lighting, sound design, score, colour, costume, camera movement, editing, pacing… etc.). You want to describe how race or gender is constructed stylistically. The first sentence of your paper must include a thesis statement. Not just opinion, but a convincing argument. For example: In this paper, I will examine how the ending scene of Candyman (Nia DaCosta, 2021) reappropriates the racialized representations through the following cinematic techniques: camera movement, color lighting, and sound design.
Again, please write in a scholarly tone. No film reviews, no tweeter/blogger-like papers, no ranting, no “I think…” sentences. Describe and explain how the scene constructs race or gender as your thesis statement posits.
