What healthy change are you willing to make in your life today? Choose a health behavior that you would like to work on over the semester (think of something small but meaningful) and describe your current health picture and self-care pattern that is causing difficulty in your life or is likely to cause you some problems in the future. What patterns, if continued, will diminish the quality of your life one year from now? Ten years from now?
Be sure that the health improvement goal you choose is specific and measurable. For example, a goal of wanting to eat better and exercise more is actually two goals (even though they may affect each other) with no identified way to measure your success. One example of a specific goal could be eating at least 6 servings of vegetables a day. Another example would be to exercise for at least one hour three times a week. Usually, the more specific that you can make your goal, the easier it is to monitor your progress.
Incorporate physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, and/or lifestyle factors to help describe your challenges in improving your health behavior.
Reflect on the Transtheoretical Model of Change that you read about in Chapter One.
Where would you place your personal health improvement goal along this model today?
Please identify which stage you believe that you are currently on and the stage you hope to reach by the end of the semester.
Your response should be no more than 2 pages that thoughtfully reflect upon the questions asked above. Your reflective essay must be typed, double-spaced, 12-point font, with one-inch margins.
