The writing topic? Dig into a connected angle of your Be the Change idea, in order to inform your readers about that angle. (What I want you to be able to do is use some of your work on this paper to transfer right into your Be the Change paper, to be efficient with time. You can copy/paste some pieces you write here, to use there.)
For example, as I look around my community & consider some ideas, I think about the fact that I’d like to see more community yoga. As someone who practices yoga, this holds a personal interest for me, and I’ve learned about the benefits. My Be the Change idea might center around this needed change….more access to free yoga programs could benefit many. For my Essay 3, then, I might do a bit of research on the mental & physical health benefits of yoga, and report out on that. Or maybe, I’d do some research on cities nearby that currently offer free programs and how they’re funded. I’d do some quick research to decide which route to go to write up a little report on this information.
You’ll need at least two supporting sources that you find from your own research, emerging at the end with an essay in which you convey a specific message to readers with an intended purpose and effect.
Structure: The paper must have a thesis and supporting, cited points, and of course, an intro and conclusion.
*You might find it helpful to use Chapter 10 in Bedford Reader, pp. 239-245, as a resource, if you’re looking for additional structure. This segment, titled “Division or Analysis: Slicing into Parts” most closely matches the purpose of this writing assignment. You may be comfortable enough w/ your skills to assemble & organize your paper without this text support; that’s ok, too.
