The Literary Analysis Essay – The story Brett Lot- night
Writing as Literature: Composition as Inquiry, Learning, Thinking, and Communication. If you choose more than one literary work, you may choose texts that belong to different genres (i.e., poetry, drama, fiction), if you wish.
Once you have settled on your selection(s), write a 3-5-page analytical paper about the chosen work(s). Write an introduction that includes a thesis statement about the work(s). If you choose one of the stories or the play, spend some time summarizing the text(s); be sure, however, to move from summary into analysis. Keep in mind the various approaches outlined in the pdf, “Reading and Writing about Literature.” You don’t need to do any biographical research for this essay, but you may include any biographical information that accompanies the selection. Make certain you quote at least twice from each literary text and document the quotations according to MLA guidelines. Include a concluding paragraph that summarizes your analysis and that offers any new insights you have attained. Include a Works Cited page at the end of your paper.
