Reminder: Please do your own work; Canvas will show lines and paragraphs lifted from any website, any internet source, and any paper submitted to any school in the world. The teacher reserves the right to assign a “0” grade to any paper Canvas labels as plagiarized.
As you should recall from lectures and readings, the narrative is a personal story that the writer thinks readers will find interesting; this means the writing should convey an experience that’s not only personal but also significant to the reader. I have listed several topics below. If you wish to convey a very meaningful experience not captured in one of these topics, then please contact me BEFORE writing for approval. Again, any topics not listed here require my approval before submitting.
A few reminders
*the narrative is the only academic essay that allows students to use first person (I, me, my, us, we, our). Do not use these terms in any other writing assignment.
*The topic is a broad stroke of the concept, but the thesis forms this essay. The thesis is a specific example of the concept.
*The thesis should name the concept and then identify three specific outcomes/traits (of that concept/topic) that fit this assignment.
*you cannot use second person (you).
*all composition and grammar rules discussed in lectures (classroom and virtual) apply.
*use the narrative essay grid to see specific points that will determine the grade on this essay.
*the traditional elements of a traditional essay are very important, so review.
*edit, revise, edit, and revise; never submit your first draft, please.
*The essay must be at least two (2) full pages; please do not write “fluff,” just to achieve two pages. It will show in the writing.
Use one of these topics to convey a “meaningful” experience. In this case, “meaningful” is an experience that changed your view of life, changed your life, taught a life-long lesson, or a represents a turning-point in your life. This is often a personal yet powerful story. Very Important: While this should be a “meaningful” experience, please do not share a traumatic experience from which you have not healed, one that’s exceedingly personal, and/or one that a legal process requires you to not disclose . .. or any experience you are not “comfortable” sharing.
