During the first half of the course, we surveyed the history of philosophy to study moral theories that answer normative questions about right and wrong, and found utilitarian, deontological, and other families of answers. In the second half of the course, we applied that theoretical foundation to contemporary problems in the world, such as capital punishment, world hunger, and animal rights. And of course during the entire thing, you worked to improve your peers’ understanding of these topics, and had your own writing peer reviewed. I hope that your understanding of these foundational normative answers, as well as your thinking about these contemporary topics, and grown and deepened. Your ePortfolio project in this course gives you the opportunity to reflect on your thinking as it may have evolved, deepened, or changed, during the time that you worked in the course, culminating in your final essay project. In this space, compose a short reflective essay in which you consider the development of your thinking with regards to your chosen project. Don’t forget to remind us of your topic and/or thesis. You might try to include some of the following thoughts or ideas in your post. In the course:
What surprised you in your research?
Did you make any assumptions that turned out to be incorrect?
Did you assume something that another student didn’t understand?
Did you overlook something, but then another student or instructor pointed it out to you? Was it helpful in your project?
What class materials, tools, techniques, checklists, or vocabulary can you bring to bear in your project?
Does your work in this class or on this project motivate you to do additional research or writing on this topic? If so, how, and in what area?
Try to reply reflectively to the post of one or two classmates, perhaps reminding him/her of additional ways that their thinking developed, or of additional class materials that are useful to describe their project development, which he/she then may use to answer the above questions.
This discussion is ungraded, but is a required portion of your final ePortfolio project. For that reason, you should try to have it completed by Friday of this week.
I did the topic on healthcare. My thesis is that healthcare, universally, should be affordable and accessible to everyone, to maximize happiness for all, as it is their right to have. What surprised me while doing the research for this topic is the amount of people are uninsured in America and the death rate that we have compared to other countries, considering that we have all the technology we need in order to help everyone. I didn’t exactly make any assumptions because we already read the chapter and learned on it. But i did think maybe other countries would have spent more money in healthcare compared to the old data in the book but the change wasn’t drastic and America still is the most expensive. I could include charts and graphs on the healthcare data of each developed country compared to America‘s so people can better understand the advantages and disadvantages of the healthcare system in each country.
