Part I: “What is the story about as a whole?” (1 well-developed paragraph)
**In this section of the Review you will write a synopsis of the movie which discusses what the movie is about (themes), how the story progresses (plot), and why the specific action occurs (conflict).
Part II: “What details are important? Why?” (1-2 well-developed paragraphs)
**In this section of the review you will analyze and interpret why the main characters in the movie do and say what they do and say (i.e., what motivates the main characters to act as they do?). In other words, each important character in the movie has a particular role; discuss what that role is and explain how the character relates to the overall plot/conflict/theme of the film. As you analyze characterization, you may also discuss important cinematic elements (framing, lighting, etc.) that contribute to character development.
Part III: “Is it true?” (1 well-developed paragraph)
**In this section of the review you will analyze and interpret how the themes and conflict(s) of the film help you as a viewer to understand how believable the story is. While you have watched a work of fiction, you are looking for the essential truth of the story in that as a classic story, the film has survived the test of time and is still considered relevant/important today. Another way to consider whether the story is “true” or believable is to ask yourself the question: “How does the story sound true today given what is happening in the world?”
Part IV: “What of it?” (1 well-developed paragraph)
**In this final section of the review you will discuss how the story is significant to you and then why the story is significant at all. Remember, if the film is a classic film it must be important. You will also explain in this section how you have been “enlightened” by watching this film. Explain finally how the film moves you or fails to move you (i.e., did you like it?).
